WESTRON R-1234yf is ASHRAE safety classification A2L for slightly flammable. It burns slowly (1.5 cm/sec) and is challenging to ignite. Independent laboratories have tested it for toxicity and determined that it has a similar level to HFC-134a. The chemistry is what makes a difference.  The hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant known as Westron (R-1234yf) has the same chemical components as HFO but one double bond between one pair of the carbon atoms.
